Cya later ‘skeuomorphism’.

One of the biggest design trends for web at the moment, is ‘flat’ design.

“Flat design means designing without the usual gradients, pixel perfect shadows, and skeuomorphism that’s been rampant in recent years to achieve what appears to be a ‘flat’ interface.” – Specky Boy

This kind of design, where bold colours and shapes do the talking, gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. I have never really been a fan of gradients and shadows, so this stuff really speaks to me.

“…as interactive designers—we should embrace the medium with which we work, and steadily reject the skeumorphic, dropshadow-y hellhole we’ve found ourselves in.”

– Daniel Howells

In terms of mobile UI, this looks great. Its bold and blocky, making for easy navigation and nice content structure.

This article above is a great little read on this new design trend, and why design was so stuck to the skeumorphic aesthetic.
